I recently found myself in a position where I had to choose between two things. One of the things in the past had made me feel much stressed and so I waited for the list opportunity to get a replacement for that thing. One lucky morning I had something presented to me which I thought was the best replacement to the old thing. Before accepting to take the new thing, I decided to consult with some people to find out what they think. Behold all they said was they loved the new thing but with a lot of conditions attached to it which made it look to me like the old one which had stressed me up a lot.
Wondering in my thoughts, I came across 1 Corinthians 10:23-24 “You say ‘I am allowed to do anything’ but not everything is good for you. You say, ‘I am allowed to do anything’ but not everything is beneficial. Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others”.
Oh now I understood why it was difficult for me to make a choice. I wanted something that will benefit me, which is good but was what I wanted actually beneficial at the moment? I searched deep down in me and I found the answer. The new thing I wanted was good but not beneficial. Something may be good but not beneficial meaning it may look good but will not produce profitable or advantageous effect.
Life is all about choices and many times we worry a lot about the choices we have to make in life. Today I decided to share this little secret about making choices. Before making a choice think deeply whether the choice is GOOD AND BENEFICIAL. It true as Christians we ought to pray about everything but we too have a power of choice. If something is good and beneficial, it will not only be good for you but it will be pleasing in God’s sight and will be for the good of others too. Added to this always do a MOTIVE CHECK while making choices. James 4 :3 says “And when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong- you want only what will give you pleasure”.
The two sited verses have opened me up to an essential tip on making the right choices “DO A MOTIVE CHECK AND SEE IF THE CHOICE IS GOOD AND BENEFICIAL.
Finally remember Deuteronomy 29:29 and 30:19-20 “The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions… Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
We have the power of choice. Let’s go for what is good and beneficial.
