But when we talk about hearing God, we often need to clarify: it\u2019s not always through an audible voice, dream, or vision. For many believers including myself, it comes as an inward witness, a quiet conviction, a still small voice.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"715\" data-end=\"964\">This is what the Bible refers to when it says, <em data-start=\"762\" data-end=\"837\">\u201cThe Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God\u2019s children\u201d<\/em>(Romans 8:16). It&#8217;s not mind to mind. It&#8217;s Spirit to spirit and because of this, I prefer to call it <em data-start=\"939\" data-end=\"951\">discerning<\/em> God\u2019s voice..<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"971\" data-end=\"1011\"><strong data-start=\"974\" data-end=\"1011\">The Foundation: Intimacy with God<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1013\" data-end=\"1268\">Like a child who knows her mother\u2019s voice without seeing her face, we come to know God\u2019s voice through continual closeness. Jesus said, <em data-start=\"1149\" data-end=\"1212\">\u201cMy sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me\u201d<\/em> (John 10:27). Recognition is the fruit of relationship.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1270\" data-end=\"1296\">We build that intimacy by:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1298\" data-end=\"1480\">\n<li data-start=\"1298\" data-end=\"1339\">\n<p data-start=\"1300\" data-end=\"1339\"><strong data-start=\"1300\" data-end=\"1323\">Staying in the Word<\/strong> \u2013 <em data-start=\"1326\" data-end=\"1337\">John 15:7<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1390\">\n<p data-start=\"1342\" data-end=\"1390\"><strong data-start=\"1342\" data-end=\"1363\">Staying in prayer<\/strong> \u2013 <em data-start=\"1366\" data-end=\"1388\">1 Thessalonians 5:17<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1391\" data-end=\"1434\">\n<p data-start=\"1393\" data-end=\"1434\"><strong data-start=\"1393\" data-end=\"1415\">Staying in worship<\/strong> \u2013 <em data-start=\"1418\" data-end=\"1432\">Psalm 95:6\u20137<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1435\" data-end=\"1480\">\n<p data-start=\"1437\" data-end=\"1480\"><strong data-start=\"1437\" data-end=\"1462\">Staying in fellowship<\/strong> \u2013 <em data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1480\">Hebrews 10:25<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1482\" data-end=\"1649\">Yet, staying is hard. Life is fast-paced. We intend to pray but get distracted. We open our Bibles and get pulled away by phone notifications. I&#8217;ve lived this reality.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1656\" data-end=\"1687\"><strong data-start=\"1659\" data-end=\"1687\">When Distraction Sets In<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1689\" data-end=\"2064\">There was a season when every time I began to pray, a flood of forgotten tasks and ideas would suddenly come to mind. Many felt so urgent that I\u2019d pause my prayer to attend to them, even saying, \u201cThank You, Jesus, for the reminder.\u201d But over time, I realized this habit was weakening my ability to discern His voice. That strong inward conviction I used to feel became faint.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2066\" data-end=\"2133\">I began to ask: <em data-start=\"2082\" data-end=\"2133\">How can I stay long enough to hear clearly again?<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2140\" data-end=\"2193\"><strong data-start=\"2143\" data-end=\"2193\">3 Staying Tips to Help You Discern God&#8217;s Voice<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3 data-start=\"2195\" data-end=\"2236\"><strong data-start=\"2199\" data-end=\"2236\">1. Recognize the Enemy\u2019s Strategy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2238\" data-end=\"2580\">The enemy doesn\u2019t always fight you with obvious sin. Sometimes he simply distracts you. His goal is to break the connection between heaven and earth that happens when you pray, worship, or read the Word. As <em data-start=\"2445\" data-end=\"2458\">1 Peter 5:8<\/em> says, \u201c<em>Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2582\" data-end=\"2644\">Awareness of this strategy is the first step to overcoming it.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2651\" data-end=\"2691\"><strong data-start=\"2655\" data-end=\"2691\">2. Press In with Spiritual Tools<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" data-start=\"2693\" data-end=\"2900\">When distractions come, don\u2019t retreat. Press in deeper. One of the greatest tools that helps me overcome distraction is <strong data-start=\"2812\" data-end=\"2837\">praying in the Spirit and worshipping with my own songs<\/strong>. As <em data-start=\"2842\" data-end=\"2855\">Romans 8:26<\/em> says, <em>\u201cThe Spirit helps us in our weakness<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 15px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;\">I begin by praying in tongues until my thoughts grow still and my spirit is awake. Most times, I worship with my own songs. By this I mean songs\u00a0that come from my heart. Not the songs I play from YouTube or I have saved on my play list. I worship God with my own voice, clapping hands were necessary, and no external instrument. As the songs pop in my heart, I begin singing them and focusing on the meaning of every word. Just as Ephesians 5:19 says \u201c\u2026<em>.speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.\u201d\u00a0<\/em>This practice realigns my attention and opens me up to the inward witness of the Holy Spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3080\" data-end=\"3206\">A resource that helped me greatly in this area is Kenneth Hagin\u2019s <em data-start=\"3146\" data-end=\"3182\">How to Be Led by the Spirit of God<\/em>. I highly recommend it.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3208\" data-end=\"3520\"><strong data-start=\"3208\" data-end=\"3240\">In corporate prayer settings<\/strong>, such as church services or group meetings, it\u2019s easy to get mentally disengaged. You may say \u201cAmen\u201d without really hearing what was prayed. One solution is to silently pray along with the person leading. Engage your heart and mind in agreement so that your \u201cAmen\u201d is meaningful.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3527\" data-end=\"3558\"><strong data-start=\"3531\" data-end=\"3558\">3. Choose a Sacred Time<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3560\" data-end=\"3924\">Find a time when you\u2019re least likely to be disturbed. For me, that\u2019s between <strong data-start=\"3637\" data-end=\"3660\">1:00 AM and 4:00 AM<\/strong>. The stillness of the early morning sets the atmosphere for clear communion. In those quiet hours, I often receive gentle impressions in my spirit, whispers that carry weight and clarity. Because my mind is quiet, I can discern that it is the Holy Spirit speaking.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3931\" data-end=\"3953\"><strong data-start=\"3934\" data-end=\"3953\">Keep Showing Up<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3955\" data-end=\"4220\">This is a <em data-start=\"3965\" data-end=\"3985\">continuous journey<\/em>. I still face distractions, but I\u2019ve learned that the power is in staying. Even when it feels dry or difficult, I show up. I worship or pray in the Spirit until my flesh grows quiet and my spirit is tuned in. The more I stay, the more I discern.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4222\" data-end=\"4285\"><em data-start=\"4222\" data-end=\"4273\">\u201cDraw near to God, and He will draw near to you.\u201d<\/em> \u2013 James 4:8<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"4292\" data-end=\"4337\"><strong data-start=\"4295\" data-end=\"4337\">In Conclusion: The Voice that Sustains<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4339\" data-end=\"4615\">To hear God through the inward witness or the still small voice, you must create space for stillness. Like Elijah in <em data-start=\"4456\" data-end=\"4474\">1 Kings 19:11\u201312<\/em>, who did not find God in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire but in a gentle whisper, you too must still the noise around and within you.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4617\" data-end=\"4808\">The voice of God won\u2019t shout over your schedule or anxieties. It waits for the stillness. That\u2019s where the staying power lies. Not just in hearing, but in remaining. In showing up. In abiding.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"4815\" data-end=\"4841\"><strong data-start=\"4818\" data-end=\"4841\">Let\u2019s Grow Together<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4843\" data-end=\"4898\">These tips are what have worked for me.
