Attaining the Best Version of Yourself

Life is a roller coaster jam-packed with lots of expectations, goals and challenges, for ourselves; as individuals, as members of groups and as creations of God. There is an innate desire within us to want more, or to be better versions of ourselves especially as we mature and increase in knowledge.

However, the path to attaining the best version of oneself is a rough one with many high and low points which can bring out the best or worse from a person. Becoming the best version of oneself therefore entails staying on the positive side of one’s life path which can be achieved by several tips.

1. A Clearly Written Vision (Habakkuk 2:2)

A clearly written vision is a very important key to achieving personal and corporate success. Vision is what guides a person in following the right path that would produce the best in him/her. Your vision orientates you into finding your purpose and your passions, enables you to make the right decisions and follow the right steps into making them a reality. God Himself confirms the importance of vision in a man’s life in Habakkuk 2:2; then the Lord answered me and said: “write the vision and make it plain on tablets that he may run with it who reads it”

2. A Never Give Up Mindset and Attitude

As earlier mentioned, the path to attaining one’s best is rough, it has lots of challenges along the way, only an intentional, strong and never giving up attitude will bring out the best in a person. Honestly, developing this attitude usually comes from knowledge and a personal relationship with God. Despite the injustice from his brothers who sold him as a slave, a woman who told a lie against him that sent him to prison because he refused to have sex with her, a glimpse of hope that showed forth when he interpreted the dream of a top official and asked for his help which did not quickly come, Joseph did not give up on life, he did not give up on pursuing the best version of himself because he knew the God he was serving. He knew that the God who created Him had the best plans for Him (Jeremiah 29:11-12) even though he could not at the time of his difficulties understand the reasons for his sufferings. He knew God had told him ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you’ (Hebrews 13:5). With this knowledge and personal relationship with God, Joseph could therefore possess a strong uncompromising attitude that finally ushered him into the best version of himself; second in authority after pharaoh, in the land of his slavery and imprisonment. Joseph became the boss of his bosses because of his winning attitude.

3. Daily Self-Improvement and Development

We can only attain the best versions of ourselves when we make positive efforts and take active steps in becoming a better person than whom we were yesterday. God designed mankind with a DNA of continuous growth and improvement (‘God blessed them and said to them, be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it’ Genesis 1:28) That is why a human being who is not improving daily can never be the best version of himself/herself; in severe cases such persons are suicidal, obese, and in less severe cases, are always negative, depressed and discouraged. Improving on oneself daily has always been a thing from creation and a necessity for man’s survival and excellence. We can develop ourselves daily by adopting positive attitudes like reading books, interacting with successful and positive minded people, leading and helping people, learning new skills etc.

The above tips are some of the key things that make a person attain his/her best version, many other good tips are available as described by writers and speakers in their own words and according to their experiences. However, regardless of whatever tip you apply, there will forever remain one greatest tip that surpasses all, that is; Having a Personal Relationship With God Through His Son Jesus, and Surrendering the Leadership of Your Life to Jesus.

Therefore my dear friend, if you have read this write up to this point and you do not have a personal relationship with God. I would like to let you know that Jesus Christ is inviting you to take the right path to attaining the best version of yourself today by accepting Him as your Master and Savior. All you have to do is accept that you are a sinner, and that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, repent from your sins and surrender your life to Him.
