Faith and Work

Faith is not just a casual ” I believe it”. It is not just a response to a ” must do” to be saved. It is not a tool of manipulation to force God to love you. Faith is a word that bears the characteristics of trust worthiness, loyalty, the knowledge and reliance on God’s guarantee of the facts of God. We must do the work of faith by investing our belief in every area of our life and in events use faith or lose it or as James puts it, faith if it has no works is dead, being by itself.

When we use the words of “Faith at work”, some people get so hot under the collar and very defensive. This is under the guise that many people who claim to bring their faith to work have one goal- to convert their peers to their belief system. This is not what faith at work is. What then is faith at work?

Faith at work for this purpose  means your faith makes you a better worker. It is the out working of everything we believe in being demonstrated at our work places. As a person exercising his/her faith at work, it should make you the best worker any one ever encounters. You should be more faithful, patient, honest and one who shines the most. This does not mean you will be a perfect worker though.
Faith at work is not in focusing on being perfect or better than any other person, but it is about seeking to be a best version of yourself and more empowered. It doesn’t mean you are more perfect but that you are dependent on one greater than yourself to help you with your work and life.

Our focus therefore should be living out our faith in Love where ever we find ourselves. A fundamental way to live out faith at work is to Strive for Excellence

Who do you work for? Ultimately, it’s not just for a company, a boss or family. We all work for the Lord, so that carries with it a responsibility. We should always do our best in human terms, we give our best efforts to the task at hand and pray the Lord blesses and sanctifies our work.

Support Others. Our work definitely involves others in one way or the other regardless of the kind of job. There are people experiencing difficulties around us at work. Although we can’t fix everything, we can often be a source of support and encouragement-quietly and unobtrusively.

Some other ways to live out our faith at work are; be joyful. We can’t be happy always but the joy we bring with us as a result of our knowledge of Christ, such joy transcends emotions and is most often contagious. Let’s also be a friendly at work, be humble, pray and grateful at all times.

This is a great challenge for me. Most at times I undermine job whereas it’s a platform for service – God’s work. I pray for grace to be more engaged. Help me Lord! Thank you Sisters.

Very true sister. We need to carry the Gospel from the pews to our places of work to make the difference.
