Don’t loss hope! Your life has a purpose

Not dealing with brokenness can lead you to the point of despair where you feel all hope is lost. Your life has a purpose, find help to deal with the brokenness and don’t let despair limit or derail you from living a purposeful life.

In a season of my life, I noticed I was in the depths of despair due to past disappointments. I had gone through a lot of disappointments and rejection in different areas of my life in the past. This kept me in constant fear of new ventures in life because I was scared of the pain that comes with rejections or disappointments. This also put me in a situation where I felt like I was not good enough that is why I was regularly being rejected.  I had to take prayer sessions about the situation of rejection, I got counsel and advice etc. This pain of disappointments which I had not dealt with over time had instilled in me a fear of rejection which was hindering me from taking certain bold steps in life in line with fulfilling purpose due to fear that I will be rejected. The Brokenness caused by past disappointments was also affecting my faith in God’s word and trusting in God’s promises that He will do what He says he will do. I was surprised on how not dealing with brokenness could affect even my physical actions.

Well, this is my story and I believe everyone’s story is unique. I recently heard a story of a young girl who has decided to live a very reckless sexual life due to a lot emotional trauma from a failed relationship. We have loosed people who committed suicide due to pain and brokenness which made them depressed. Yes, I know it’s hard and I may not understand. Nevertheless, what is sure is that we can be healed. Don’t let your broken state derail you from living a purposeful life. God is close to the broken hearted. God is our healer. I know its hard, but please dear friend, there is still hope. Our hope is in the God who loves us with an eternal love so much so that even while we were yet sinners, broken by the grip of sin, God sent his only son Jesus Christ to die on the cross as a ransom for our sins and reconcile us to God.

Mary Magdalene is a woman mentioned in the bible who was healed by Jesus from seven demons (Luke 8:1-3). Demon manifestations may take the form of emotional, character or mental maladies. Jesus healed people who were broken by demons, overpowering the forces that limited them from living purposeful lives. Mary Magdalene after her healing traveled with Jesus and his disciples and supported Jesus financial (Luke 8:1-3); She was the first to encounter Jesus after the resurrection and she proclaimed the gospel of Jesus Christ (John 20:11-18). Mary Magdalene was transformed from a woman broken by demons to a leader amongst women who fulfilled her assignment of financing the gospel and proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Let’s also look at the story of Jeremiah  in the bible.

Jeremiah 1:4-12 – ‘The word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘You were created by God for a purpose “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.’ ‘Alas, Sovereign Lord, I said,’ ‘I do not know how to speak; I am too young.’ But the Lord said to me, ‘Do not say, “I am too young.” You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid to them, for I am with you and will rescue you,’ declares the Lord. Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, ‘I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.’ The word of the Lord came to me: ‘What do you see, Jeremiah?’ ‘I see the branch of an almond tree,’ I replied. The Lord said to me, ‘You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.’

God gave Jeremiah a word about his assignment of being a Prophet to the nations. Of course, prophesying entails speaking. Jeremiah’s response to this call showed some aspects of his life which may have distressed him and limited him from being able to fulfill this assignment. He could not speak and he was too young. What is very important to note here is that Jeremiah acknowledged and opened up his situation to God. God addressed his situation by touching his mouth and putting his word in Jeremiah’s mouth. God also gave Jeremiah words of assurance of His presence with Jeremiah and making sure that His (God’s) word is fulfilled. With the solace Jeremiah found in God, he was able to overcome every physical circumstance and walk towards fulfilling his assignment.

In Lamentations 2:11, Jeremiah still laments “My eyes fail from weeping, I am in torment within; my heart is poured out on the ground because my people are destroyed, because children and infants faint in the streets of the city.”

Are there moments in your life, even in your Christian journey when you can relate to Jeremiah where circumstances make you cry so much and remain so heartbroken? There is still hope. It’s okay to cry out to God in prayer but our God loves us more than we know and we can trust his word.  Remember Psalm 34:18-20 says “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.”

Dear friend, find help and deal with that situation that leaves you broken. Hold on to our hope in Jesus Christ who is able to heal and comfort us through the Holy Spirit. Keep the determination to relinquish depression through the help of the Holy Spirit, God’s word and the people who can help you. The depression may go in a day or it may take some time but what is certain is that God can turn your pain into gain if you focus on Him.

I m really grateful for participating in this group .when I read through the story I see a reflection of me.Sometimes I feel like the world is against me due to my life experiences but when I look at others I always feel like I’m really blessed from beyond.
From the story I have learned not to worry too much about life .we should lean on Christ and follow his ways.

    • Keep holding on. God is faithful. May God grant you peace in every situation and we pray that by God’s grace you will be delivered from the circumstances which cause you pain.
