As we continue with our faith series, let’s be encouraged by this article on “Faith That Holds”
Faith Stands When Feelings Fail
Feelings are powerful, but they are also unstable. One day we feel confident and hopeful: the next, weary and unsure. If our walk with God is built only on how we feel, it will shift with every circumstance. Faith stands when feelings fail because faith is rooted not in emotion, but in truth. The Bible reminds us that faith is not based on what is visible or emotionally satisfying. For we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Feelings respond to what we see and experience, but faith responds to what God has spoken. Even when emotions whisper doubt, faith listens to God’s promises.
David understood this tension well. In moments of deep distress, he did not deny his feelings, but he refused to let them lead. Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God (Psalm 42:11). Faith does not ignore pain, it speaks truth into it. There are seasons when God feels distant, prayers seem unanswered, and worship feels dry. Yet Scripture assures us that God’s presence is not dependent on our emotions. The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth (Psalm 145:18). Faith holds firm even when we cannot sense Him.
Abraham’s story is a powerful example of faith standing beyond feelings. Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact… yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God (Romans 4:19–20). Faith is choosing to trust God’s promise even when circumstances, and emotions, suggest otherwise. God invites us to bring our feelings to Him, but He does not ask us to live by them. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). Faith rests in God’s care, not in emotional certainty.
When feelings fail, faith remembers this truth: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Our emotions change, but God does not. Faith stands because God is faithful. In the end, faith is not about always feeling strong, it is about standing firm on God’s Word. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:23). When feelings fade, faith remains, and it will always lead us back to God. May we hold firm to this truth always and find grace to keep holding on in faith even when our feelings say otherwise.

This is very timely. I have allowed my emotions many times to lead me into so much fear and I find myself not remembering the promises of God. Most times I have wondered away in worry before I get a reminder and put myself back together. I pray that I will be able to have faith beyond my feelings.
