The Last One Standing

I was watching the news the other day and a journalist and three guests he had on his show were having a discussion on the topic of religion in Europe. One thing they pointed out in their conversation is that church pews are increasingly becoming empty in Europe and that Christianity isn’t appealing to the younger generation anymore. Christianity isn’t the “happening thing” now I could say. There’s so much going on in the world now – it is a chaotic situation and unfortunately many are falling away from the faith and many are being deceived.

This kind of information could be discouraging when you hear it. It’ll raise up certain questions, doubts and fears in the heart of people and it’ll could lead to even more people falling away because people seem to follow whatever is “trending” these days.

However, many are finding their way to Christ too, many people are coming to the realisation of the extraordinary and extravagant love and grace that is found in Jesus Christ.

You are not the Last One Standing!

That’s exactly how Elijah felt when we read the story in the book of 1Kings 19 in the bible. He felt alone and he couldn’t take it anymore, he gave up, he didn’t want to go on anymore. He said this to God; “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”(1 Kings 19:10 NIV)

Don’t we just feel like Elijah felt sometimes? Doesn’t it feel like “what’s the point trying to tell anyone about Jesus anyway?, the world has turned on him and nothing I say can change that “. You feel like standing firm in Christ, following his ways and striving to be like him doesn’t make sense anymore, everyone else around us seems to be doing otherwise so we might as well queue in.

But that’s not the case! Just like God told Elijah; “I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.” (1 Kings 19:18 NIV) – There’s still thousands of others out there like you whose lives are dedicated to Christ and who are living for Him and through Him. There’s still a lot more who are finding him everyday and coming to realisation of the awesome life found in him.

So stand firm sister! You’re not alone! There’s still a lot more of us out there! Don’t let go of this priceless treasure you found! Hold on tightly to it till the end! I can assure you it won’t be in vain!

You’re not the Last One standing! We’re still here with you

Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.”
1 Kings 19:18 NIV
