Hurray!!! We made it to October. Welcome to a new month friends.
Isn’t it exciting that we are already in the 10th Month of the year and 2019 is quickly coming to an end. Its even more exciting that we are here together, still partnering with you in this journey of faith. There is something very peculiar about the October, the 10th month. Ten in mathematics symbolizes wholeness. We are often told to round up decimal numbers to the next whole number and to get the next whole number, we multiply by 10 to shift the decimal point. In the bible, the tenth month is equally of great significance. Esther 2:16-17 “So Esther was taken to the king, into his royal palace in the TENTH month which is the Month of Tebeth…The king loved Esther more than all the other women and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the other virgins; so he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen.”
The name Tebeth in Hebrew means “GOODNESS“. The 10th month was described as the month of Tebeth, meaning the month of Goodness. Therefore in this 10th month, I pray that you be made whole, that you will experience the goodness of God in all dimensions and just like Esther, may this 10th month be your month of Favour and breakthrough in Jesus name.
However, to experience the goodness of God in this 10th month, there are many demands from us. God has promised that Goodness and Mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives and we shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. But what do I need to do inorder to experience the goodness of God? The most important role we have to play is first of all to set our eyes and minds on the “THE THINGS ABOVE”. Therefore this month, we will be exploring the theme “THE THINGS ABOVE” and we’ll be looking at a few areas such as:
1.) What are the things above?
2.) Why should I focus on the things above?
3.) How do I focus on the things above?
4.) What benefit do I get from focusing on the things above?
Looking at this theme, I am reminded of the biblical narrative in Matthew 6 where Jesus taught His disciples about prayer and admonished them to focus their eyes on the things above (what they were called to do) and not about what they need to eat to stay alive or what they need to wear. (Matthew 6:19-34). This narrative gives an assuring spiritual understanding of how God takes care of His children. But sometimes it looks too spiritual for us to understand. How is it possible to live a life without worrying? How is it possible to live on earth without buying all the fashion items and without “Slaying”? Then Colossians 3 comes in to clear our worries by contextualizing “The things above” to our lives in the society today. All these and more will be analysed in our write ups this month of October. Our main aim is that our mids should be renewed and repositioned for the Good things God has in store for us. In understanding how to focus on the things above, we will be able to get a clear understanding on what is required of us to be partakers of the Tenth month package and beyond.
Stay tuned and get ready to enjoy the tenth month, the Month of Tebeth.
