Gotchya with the title right?
Today we are essentially exploring the essence of “the mind” in the path of salvation. It is already the second month of the year. Hopefully all the resolutions we made for the New Year are holding strong. If you are like me, you began your year on a rather sour note and did not make any resolutions at all. Worry not! I hope by the end of this article you will be able to pick up one or two things to put into practice during this awesomely labeled year -20/20.
Today we are exploring the rather simple idea of the role of your mind in self-transformation and salvation. So you have been told to change your life! Do good deeds! Let the Holy Spirit lead your life and true all these count. Nevertheless, the MIND is one pertinent things which is of essence in the transformation process.
Most self-transformation and self-help books involve a change in ones thought patterns and imagery to achieve personal and even physical change. We are even told: “Hey, if you want to be rich, think and imagine yourself as a rich person. For as a man thinketh, so is he”. Here, we are not going to explore the science behind this concept. We are going to talk about the spiritual aspect of opening your mind to the SPIRIT OF GOD. I think the mind is one part of the human body that is not even half understood and the potential of your mind dear reader is astoundingly great. Now, the word of God tells us to guard our minds and protect them and feed them with the right things so that they can in turn become a passage, an entrance for Gods spirit to join itself to ours and declare that we are Gods children, therefore securing our SALVATION.
Romans 12:2 says “Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your MIND.”
Also Romans 8 talks about being controlled by the Holy Spirit. When you believe in Jesus Christ and let your mind to be controlled by the Holy Spirit, the same life-giving Spirit which raised Jesus from the dead will bring life and peace to your soul, thereby guaranteeing your salvation. Sounds cool right? It’s not easy at all. I mean sometimes we literally have no control over our thoughts. My thoughts would roam from a massive problem I am facing, to why my neighbor is chewing so loudly, to what I will put on the next day, to this and that all in a few seconds. That’s okay. I think opening your mind to the spirit means at those moments when we are conscious of our thoughts, we should practice what we are told in Philippians 4:8 which says “…fill your minds with things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right pure, lovely and honorable.”
So, within this week, the next time you catch yourself thinking of something bad or wrong, acknowledge that and then fill your mind with other good and pure thoughts. For me, I may feel my thoughts with that profound love I share with kids or uplifting my spirit by singing. It could be another thing for you. Just think about the good and pure things! You can start practicing this week, then the next and the next.
You see, YEAH! That’s a cool New Year resolution right?. Try it, tell a friend or two to join you.I pray that the Spirit of God may fill your mind and draw you closer to God in the most personal way through this experience. We keep praying for you and look forward to hearing from you about your experiences.
Thank you.
Thanks for the write up. I have been struggling with my thoughts this week but now I have learned how to better manage it. God bless you.
