Okay! So on to day 3!
Day 3: A Christmas Thank You
‘Thank you’… these are two words that have such a soothing effect on the soul and when spoken in sincerity produces the wonderful feeling of accomplishment and fulfillment. It seems to have a ripple effect because when someone is told thank you, they tend to become thankful themselves that they could be or could do something that deserves a ‘thank you’.
However because these words are the clichéd reply that is given when someone offers you a service or does something nice for you, sometimes they aren’t really spoken consciously or purposefully. They are just spoken because that’s what should be said or that’s an appropriate reply – a silent rule. So ‘thank you’ loses its meaning and essence very often. It’s more like the typical “how-are-you/I’m-fine” exchange that happens when two people are trying to make conversation rather than actually being interested in how the person is doing.
Sometimes our ‘thank you’ needs to be purposeful and conscious. It needs to be particular and specific. Sometimes we actually have to take out some time to think of all the things we are thankful for and also exactly why we are thankful for them. Christmas will seem like the perfect time to do that!
So here’s the challenge for you today:
Give a thank-you Christmas card to at least 7 of your loved ones. Write down 7 things to them that you are thankful for.
It doesn’t have to be only the big and impressive things you say thanks for. It could be saying thank you for simple things such as saying thank you to someone for taking out the trash, cooking a really nice meal or even for the simple conversations you have together. Such things don’t take too much effort but mean a lot. Be appreciative of them now because when you don’t have those anymore you’ll understand just how important they were. Just like the old saying goes; “you don’t know what you have until you lose it”. Say thank you now so in future you don’t have to look back and have regrets.
Actually it’s going to be a double challenge today! 🙂 Also;
Write down 7 things to God in your journal (or just a letter to him) that you are thankful for this Christmas.
Saying a lot of “thank-yous” couldn’t possibly hurt in anyway! So go for it! 🙂
“Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalm 106:1 NIV
Thank you! 🙂
