When God directed us to start this blog (well Ministry I could say) and the girls and I decided to obey, I had many doubts and insecurities. I didn’t know if I was ready for this or even able to do it. Especially because putting yourself out there like this will give room for many people to judge you and say whatever they want to about you. Your every step will be watched closely. Every little mistake you make will be magnified and you will be expected to be perfect – flawless. Truth is no one is, just one flawless person walked this earth – Jesus – Apart from him, no one else is. So no matter what you do, you will make mistakes sometimes, you will fail other times. So shouldn’t you carry out the task God has given you? Do you have to wait till your perfect before you do it?
I think the answers to these questions are an emphatic no! And I’ll give you a few reasons why.
1. God’s strength is revealed in your weakness
The very thing you think makes you incapable is what God wants to use to show his greatness and power. Many people today who have allowed God to use them in any way – be it preaching the Gospel, helping and serving people, teaching others, singing or whatever it may be are not perfect. In fact a few of them have had their mistakes and flaws aired in the open for many people to see and judge them. But most of them didn’t let that stop them from carrying out their purpose. They learned from those mistakes and moved on. You should too. What’s most important isn’t making a mistake, learning from it and moving on is what matters most. Do not let your failures and mistakes prevent you from fulfilling your purpose. Let God’s power be portrayed through them.
2Cor 12:9a But he said unto me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness
2. You learn from your mistakes
When you make a mistake or fail at something and you come to the realization of it, chances are you’ll be very careful not to repeat that same mistake again – especially when it’s a mistake that has great repercussions. You learn a life lesson and through that you not only become a better person but you could encourage others too. Now I’m not encouraging you to not be cautious and do your best not to fail or avoid mistakes. You should always be striving and aiming at perfection. Always be careful to obey God and live according to His commandments… but when you do fail, do not give up on yourself. You must learn to forgive yourself and move on. Other people might still remind you of your failures – many times. But that shouldn’t stop you from carrying out your purpose. Let your past make you a better person in your tomorrow.
Philippians 3:13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead
3. You will only be perfect when Jesus comes again
If you quit on your purpose now because you or anyone else doesn’t think you’re ‘perfect’ or good enough for it, it really wouldn’t make a difference because, your only going to be perfect when Jesus comes again (1John 3:2). The problem is when he does come back, the time would’ve expired and you wouldn’t be able to carry out your purpose anymore. So the only time you have is now! Just as you are – flaws and all. So get up and start working at it because the clock is ticking.
1 John 3:2b But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
So if God has asked you to do something, and you’ve had doubts about obeying him because you don’t think you are good or “perfect” enough, I’d like to encourage you to abandon that line of thought today and start working at whatever it is he asked you to do! You are just the right person that’s why he chose you.
Again I’d like to emphasize that I’m not by any means justifying sin. No. God’s grace shouldn’t be abused. Do your best to avoid sin and to please God in whatever you do, “forgetting the past and straining toward what is ahead” just like Paul said.
Remain Blessed
