Who is the Holyspirit?

The Holyspirit forms part of the God head. He is the third person of the Trinity but not the least. He is of the same importance as God the Father and God the Son. He is the most important person on planet Earth, yet the highest ignored and misunderstood. He is without form but a person. He is a spirit just like God the Father.

Some misconceptions about the person of the Holyspirit include points like He is a power or force that causes people to fall, He is separate from the other persons in the God head,He is an “it” and not a person. All these are false conceptions as to Who the Holyspirit is.

Who then is the Holyspirit?

1. Like God the Father and Son, He is a person with no beginning nor an end. He is hidden yet a living being. We become His body when He lives in us.

2. He has an intellect and a will like every person. Having an intellect meaning He can think, explore, search, teach. 1 cor.2: 10, John 14: 16.
He has a will, meaning He can do things at will. The variety of gifts given to believers is given by the Holyspirit and at His will.

3. He also testisfies. Jn 15:26

4. He has emotions. He can love(Rom 15:30), He can be grieved and made angry(Eph 4:27-30) especially when we lie, steal, indulge in foolish talks among others.

5. He can speak. Rev 2:7, Gal 4:6, Acts 13: 2. He speaks as a still voice, leads us to the truth, speaks through persons etc.

6.He can be insulted. Heb 10:29

7.He can be lied to, take the case of Ananias and Saphira, Acts 5:3-9

8. He can be blasphemed. Mt 12:31-32. Today many attribute every manifestation of the Spirit of God to evil, so we shouldn’t attribute every manifestation of spirit to God because it could be powers from elsewhere.

9. He can be resisted, Acts 7:51. Hard hearts are always resistant to the Holyspirit. Sometimes the Holyspirit might want to take us out of situations yet we resist.

10. He can be quenched. 1Thes5:19. He might want to be in us but our activities, behaviours quenches the Holyspirit down

11. He prays for us… and helps us pray in a manner that is acceptable and pleasing to God.

The Holyspirit is therefore a person and should be addressed as one and not an it as has often been the case. Just like Father and Son He is a member of the God head and is God in another form and shouldn’t be addressed nor treated any less.
