Monthly Theme: The Righteousness of God
I was going about my house chores; cleaning, washing, dusting off stuff, asking myself why! Why on earth the hamper was this full and I didn’t even want to think about the dishes in the sink! I was completely zoned in on my crazy-annoyed thoughts and on what I was doing that I almost didn’t notice when He whispered. He’s great at this! When your heart is open to him, at any time, any place, He just makes His way straight in! And oh do I love when he does this! 🙂
This time, He asked me a question… “Why do you do what you do Apiseh?”…. I had to pause for a second ofcourse and think of a reasonable answer. I mean when God asks you a question you need to think before answering no? I was thinking… man! Is this a trick question? You know kind of if your mom asks you whether the dish you’d so diligently and vigorously washed! – was clean or dirty (really mama?!) And you just can’t answer because that seems like a really nicely laid out trap! (Thanks mama 😑) . Well so before I could answer that, He gave me an answer – well kind of. Turns out it was a rhetoric question after all (another thing He’s great at 😅).
The answer? – Matther 6:33. So I dropped the mop in my hand and scurried off to find my bible besides the house had been quite a mess for a few days, a few more minutes wasn’t going to hurt nobody 😊. So I read it out loud;
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
I paused at – His kingdom and – His righteousness. There was the answer to the question… Why do you do what you do?Â
Whatever you do should be because you’re seeking HIS kingdom, HIS righteousness. Not your righteousness, not your kingdom. You can be anything you want to be, you can do anything you want to but you’ve got to ask yourself if it first seeks God’s kingdom, If it first seeks God’s righteousness.
In our world today selfishness is increasing… at an alarming rate! So much so that unconsciously we are becoming so engulfed in ourselves, our image, our desires and ambitions that we forget what is most important – what really matters.
So I meditated on that question for a while and I asked myself “Why do you write these articles, why do you dance, why do you do all the things you do? And I realised I needed to make it a conscious decision and a more deliberate effort to always have His kingdom and righteousness at the fore front of my mind when I do whatever I do. Because at the end of it all, that is what really matters – HIS righteousness. So I tried to find out more what really God’s righteousness is… and I found out a few things about His righteousness:
* His righteousness is what is right in His eyes – what He approves
* His righteousness is His ability to transform us – His transforming power
* His righteousness is His act of saving us through the sacrifice of His son – Jesus Christ
* His righteousness represents the unleashing of His power in an active and visible way.
*By His righteousness, whatever He says comes to pass – His integrity.
So in whatever you do, seek these things first.
God bless you
