How far can you see? What you see is what you will become, what you see is what you will possess. What you see is what you expect. Your expectation is what sets the pace for your possession and it sets the pace for your distinction as well. In life, it is what you expect that you experience. It’s enough to to fast and pray. If God must intervene, then your expectation must be in line with God’s word.
Expectation is a confident belief or strong hope that a particular thing will happen (David Ibiyeomie). Someone without expectation is like someone playing football without a goal post. There is power in expectation. Mk 11:24 says “therefore I tell you, what thing you desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them and ye shall have them”, so there’s to be an expectation first, before prayers. Often times, many pray without results because there’s no expectation before prayers.
What are you expecting? If you expect nothing, you will get nothing no matter how much you pray. You can achieve great things in life when there are expectations and when there are no expectations, mediocrity is accepted. Expectation creates the atmosphere for faith to work. When the crippled man at the Beautiful Gate saw peter and John about to enter the gate, he asked for money. Peter and John looked straight at him, and then there was the expectation on his part to receive what he had asked for.
Expecting to receive, the crippled man gave his attention to them and Peter in response said “silver and gold I have none but in Jesus name, rise up and walk” and taking him by the right hand he rose to his feet instantly (Acts 3:5-8). The crippled man was in expectation, he might have been expecting money but Peter gave him what he had because the crippled man was in expectation.
People often wonder why the walk of faith seems to profit some and not all. It has to do with who was in expectation. An atmosphere of expectation enables miracles and breakthroughs to happen and when it happens we can begin to appreciate the power of expectation unleashed by faith. So expectation can be termed the magnet that draws your breakthrough closer and closer till it becomes your possession. It was expectation that made Zacheus climb up the sycamore tree (Mt19:1-9) and his expectation couldn’t fail to draw Jesus’ attention. He was a short man hence his height was an impediment, as if that wasn’t bad enough, he was a sinner and he knew this. His urgent wish was for salvation, he was so desperate that his impediments didn’t hinder him; his expectations ensured that he wasn’t hindered and behold his expectation created the atmosphere that got him his breakthrough.
How far can you see? You can only become what you see and what you see are your expectations.
Strong expectations therefore create the atmosphere for miracles to take place. Jesus couldn’t do much for the people of His town because the faith of His people wasn’t enough to stir up any form of expectation, the result was, they were lukewarm in contrast to the Centurion whom by faith had expectations and his servant was healed (Mt 8:13). Expectation is the manifestation of the faith we profess, our faith can be seen and measured by the power of expectation it is able to create. When expectation is high the atmosphere is charged up with the power of expectation, anointing power is released therefore to the atmosphere such that miracles begin to happen.
Ask yourself how was the woman with the issue of blood able to create the atmosphere for her healing even before Jesus proclaimed her healed. You might say faith, but I dare to ask, was she the only one with faith in the entire crowd, what made the difference was her expectation. If it’s too much to expect, it will be too difficult to experience. You only experience what you expect.
Every time you therefore want your prayers to produce, there is an expectation first. Once your expectations are high, commit God to perform and He will grant it to you. To be hopeless is to be helpless, so we encourage you to have expectations. When you pray without expectations, even when God brings the answer you will not know. What do you expect, you are not likely to experience, if you want results, Expect.
