THE HOLY SPIRIT OUR COMPANION

God has promised never to leave us and the promise is true.

“… because God has said, Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”(Hebrews 13:5b)

God abides with us forever through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our companion. The Holy Spirit is the perfect helper from God to us and we need to live in awareness of His presence.

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.” (John 14:16)

This month, we would be sharing on “the Holy Spirit our companion. This write-up focuses on the CONVICTION, TRANSFORMATION AND EMPOWERMENT BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.

1. Conviction by the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, tuning our hearts unto repentance and righteousness (John 16:8-15). Christians have been commissioned to spread the good news about salvation through Jesus Christ but the conviction of hearts unto salvation is by the enablement of the Holy Spirit.

But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment…” (John 16:7-8)

2. Transformation by the Holy Spirit

The one who believes is continually transformed by washing through the water of the word and renewal by Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enables the believer to understand the truth-the word of God and guides the believer to walk in this truth.

Ephesians 5:25b-27… just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her  to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.”

Titus 3:5-6 “He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior.”

3. Empowerment by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit empowers the believer to witness about Jesus Christ.

Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Out of God’s ultimate love for us, He promised to always be with us. God abides with us forever through the Holy Spirit. All you need to do today is to respond to this love of God by repenting from sin and believing in Jesus Christ. As you do so, God will always be with you as evidenced by the presence of the Holy Spirit in you who guides you to walk in the truth. Many of us strive to overcome the temptations of life by our human efforts. Each time we fight it, we fall. We know what we ought to do but we find ourselves doing the wrong things. It is not our desire but the sinful nature in us keeps pushing us. Apostle Paul experienced this same saga (Romans 7:15). However, he overcame these temptations by the help of the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit that empowers us to live Godly lives as He helps us in our weaknesses (Romans 8:26). On our own we will always fall. I urge you this day to make the Holy Spirit your companion as you closely follow our posts and write ups this month.

First of all, if it is you desire to commit your life to God and make the Holy Spirit your companion, please sincerely say this prayer:

Lord God, You are a great and loving father. Lord, I acknowledge my sins and wrong doings. I come to you this day to cleanse me of my sin and make me whole. I believe in Jesus Christ who died on the cross for my sins and I commit my life to You this day. Take my heart, cleanse me and consecrate me and use me for your glory. Thank you Lord for saving me. Through the name of Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior, Amen.

If you genuinely made this prayer, believe God has heard you and you are welcomed to the family of believers. We encourage you to grow in faith by studying and meditating on the word of God, making prayer, praise and thanksgiving a lifestyle. Strive to flee evil and bad habits, fellowship with other believers to grow in knowledge of the word of God and seek spiritual mentorship.
