I stepped into service on a Tuesday evening, rushing to grab a seat without distracting anyone, observing people soaking themselves in worship as I tried to connect my heart to it as well. I could hear the worship team chant this song “When the oceans rise and thunders roar, I will soar with you above the storm, Father you are king over the flood, I will be still, know you are God.” Not just the melody of the song was soothing to the ears but the words sank deep into my soul. As I tried to focus on the lyrics of the song, applying it to my situation, there came another song, but this was a song with just one sentence which said “Breathe on me Lord Breathe on Me.” While joining the congregation to chant the words Breathe on me, I asked myself, what does this song really mean? What is the breath of God? How does he breathe on me when I can’t see him?
In my meditation I heard the words breathe on me sound deeper and deeper. Then I heard a voice sounding so real, taking me to Ezekiel 37:9 KJV “Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, Prophesy, son of man and say to the wind, thus saith the Lord God; Come from the four winds O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.”
NLT “Then he said to me, speak a prophetic message to the winds, son of man. Speak a prophetic message and say, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come O breath from the four winds! Breathe into these dead bodies so they may live again.”
Wow, these were powerful words. But why will they come to me at this service? I was coming expecting another encounter and not this. What do I have to do with dead bodies I thought? Then the spirit ministered to me that the main way the Spirit of God imparts life into us is by his breath. In the creation story in Genesis 2:7, God formed man from dust and breathed into his nostrils and the man became a living creature. Therefore, in order for us to live, we need the breath of God. Someone may say I am living, all parts of my body are functioning well so this prayer for God to breathe on me may not really be necessary for me now because the breath was already given at creation. Yes, I agree with you that the breath was already given at creation for us to have life. But in the midst of our pursuits, there are things that lack life in us. It may be your purpose, your health, your business, marriage, etc. Some of us are just existing and not living.
Dear friends, we are in the times where God wants everyone to experience the breath of God. That is the reason why He could ask Ezekiel whether the dry bones will live again and he told Ezekiel to prophesy to these dry bones. My question to you is what do you do with the dry bones in your life? Do you speak the word of God to them? Some one may say God is not living and we can’t see him so how does he breathe? The breath of God is the word of God. Whatever God has spoken concerning any situation in your life is the life giving breath that the situation needs. That’s the reason why in the next verse (Ezekiel 37:10) Ezekiel says “So I prophesied as he commanded and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet-a vast army.”
Friend I came to tell you today that God wants you to use the breath He has given you and speak to the dead situation in your life. Breathe the word of God upon it so that it will come back to life. There’s no use lamenting over a situation you can’t change. Ezekiel in the valley of dry bones knew he could not do any thing about the dry bones but his ears were tuned to God so he could hear what God was saying in that situation and God said he should prophecy to the dry bones that they may receive the breath of life. I therefore urge you to be the Ezekiel over your life. Don’t just stay in self- pity but ask God to breathe on you, with the understanding that as you keep declaring his word over that situation, that is his life, his breath coming upon you to bring that dead thing to life.
To God alone be all Glory.
Thank you may God bless you
Solomon Admires His Bride 15 You are a garden spring, a well of fresh water flowing down from Lebanon. 16 Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind.
