PITFALLS IN BREAKING THROUGH
God’s desire is for us to enjoy life and everything wrapped up in the redemption package of Jesus on the cross. This package includes riches, good health and abundance amongst others. After suffering for a while, God sees our struggles and says it is time to liberate us. Unfortunately, most of us don’t stay to experience the breakthrough because of some pitfalls. I pray that as we identify these pitfalls in our lives, we will be able to reconcile with God and our fellow men, so that we will not be the hindering blocks to what God wants to do in your life. I will dwell here on one very common pitfall which is ENVY.
ENVY!! ENVY!! ENVY!!
Most people say they don’t “envy” him/her in a negative way. They are simply admiring what she has and wishing it was them in that position. Whether we term it envy or admiration, one thing very glaring is that it often ends in discontentment. Envy by the dictionary definition is a feeling of discontentment or resentful longing aroused by someone else’s possessions, qualities, or luck. Many of us stand in the way of our break through because of this feeling of “ENVY”. I have encountered many young people who get into depression each time they go to social media and see how their friends are doing this or that while they are still at the same level. I am guilty of this. It got me at one point in my life terribly and many times I thought God was partial.
Well, sometimes as we study the word of God, we can actually feel like God is partial and chooses to bless some people more. For example in Genesis, Jacob stole Esau’s blessings but it was Jacob who had the promise over his head right from the womb when God told Rebecca that the younger twin will serve the older one. Even when Jacob was the one who stole, God being a Promise keeping God still had to show mercy and favor him because He was the child of the promise. (Genesis 25). Let’s see another example when Abraham introduced his wife to Abimelech as his sister and Abimelech wanted to marry her ignorantly, God was ready to punish Abimelech even though it was Abraham who lied. Hmmmmm this partiality. The same thoughts came to mind recently as I watched the whole documentary of the U.K royal family succession and it seemed like God picked one family on earth and made them this rich. For eternity the wealth will keep circulating around the same people. This God must be partial I thought. In fact, God has special love for some people that he favors them however He wishes.
The amazing truth however is that YOU and I are among these special people whom he has chosen to favor. Just the way He revealed to Rebecca that among her twins, the older will serve the younger, is the same way that He had written out our life purposes before we were born. We are just living out an already written story which we only get to enjoy when we stop envying others and focus on our own story. It is therefore incumbent on us to go before the father, and ask Him specific questions about our lives. Some of them could be:
- “Father you did not make me a member of the U.K Royal Family but I know I have a unique role in my continent. What role do I have to play as royalty in my continent?”
- “Father what are the specifics about my life purpose and assignment?”
- “Father if you were to put 10 million in my hands now for me to do whatever I want with it what will you have me do? What are the problems you want me to solve in my generation?”
- “Father what is that thing about me that I do not know? What are those things you deposited in me that are fighting to find expression?”
- “Father when you look at me who do you see in me?”
As you meditate over these questions and others you may have, be expectant to receive answers because God is not deaf. Take a position ready to write what answers you receive either at that moment or in the course of your day. Just be alert. He is always willing to speak to us. The answer may come as a strong conviction or drive about something that you never thought about but now you feel so much peace to do it. It may be a still small voice that sounds like a whisper but is very strong and you can’t avoid. It may come through the voice of wise counsel by someone you look up to in the faith or through other ways. Whichever way the answer comes, please be intentional about it and take steps in that direction. That is the lane God has carved out for you and in that lane you will experience your breakthrough. Stop wishing that you were this or that and be you. “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’”(Romans 9:20b). God has made everything for a purpose (Proverbs 16:4). Envy is a chain that ties you up, preventing you from moving to the next level or accessing your break through.
I pray that after reading this article, you and I will not be the ones standing in the way of our break through. Let’s take a commitment not to envy other people but celebrate with them and trust God in our lanes. In fact SLAY IN YOUR LANE.
Remain Blessed.
