Peace Through Trust In God

When I carry little babies, I like playing with them by throwing them up into the air above my head and catching them again in my arms. I noticed that when doing this, I am very careful, making sure that the child does not fall. Interestingly, for most children, when they are thrown in the air, they feel comfortable and chuckle with laughter indicating that they are happy with what adults may perceive as being dangerous for them. Apparently, these little babies trust that the one who is playing with them and throwing them into the air will surely catch them again. Due to this trust, they find peace even in what may seem dangerous.

To Trust someone means to place total confidence in that person. When we trust someone, we believe that person is good and very reliable so we can depend on him.

Trusting God brings PERFECT PEACE. Isaiah 26:3 says (NLT) “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you.”

Trusting God can be attained through a relationship with God and practicing total dependence on God.  This entails believing in Jesus Christ, reading the word of God, relying on God’s word and promises, obeying God’s word, praying, worship, thanksgiving and practicing relying on God. Practicing means you are conscious of your decision to depend on God and in whatever situation, you go back to God. Practicing relying on God is an act of faith in God. For instance, Daniel is one had a relationship with God and practiced relying on God a lot. In Daniel 6, king Darius signed a law that for thirty days, any person who prays to any one divine or human except to him (King Darius) will be thrown into the den of lions. When Daniel heard of this, he went home and knelt down and prayed three times a day, thanking God and asking for God’s help. Due to this, Daniel was caught and thrown into a Den of lions for disobeying the king. The next morning, the king went to the lions’ den and called out to find out about Daniel. It is recorded that the king called out in “anguish”. This means the king was in distress, he was not at peace. Meanwhile,Daniel responded “Long live the king! My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they would not hurt me…” This response sounds to me like someone responding in a very relaxed and peaceful mode.

Daniel trusted God and practiced it in such a way that even in the face of death, he gave thanks to God, prayed and sought God’s help , obeyed God’s word of not worshipping idols and our faithful God shut the mouths of the lions from hurting . King Darius’ state of anguish when he called out for Daniel while he (Daniel) was in the lions’ den may have been a result of the fact that he did not have a relationship with Daniels God who is the living God thus he could not have the kind of trust in God which Daniel had. Apparently, Daniel’s calm and Peace while in the lions’ den is as a result of his trust in God which is spurred by his total dependence on God born out of his relationship with God. This is the kind of peace that surpasses all understanding. In pain or in joy you find peace.

It is possible to find perfect peace in a world of so much struggles and pain. Peace of mind and heart is a gift to us from Jesus Christ and this kind of Peace the World cannot give. So we don’t need to be troubled (John 14:27), rather trust God for He will keep you in perfect peace.

THERE IS PEACE IN GOD THROUGH JESUS CHRIST!
