The Desires of Our Hearts

As the year wraps up, most of us start taking a retrospective view on the year that was – measuring our achievements, successes, disappointments, losses, fulfilled and unfulfilled desires. Sometimes (if not most times), we end the year still longing for many things, still desiring many things… Some of the things we had hoped will come to pass during the year didnt happen. We start to wonder when will we have these…

It is only natural and normal for the human heart to have many desires and wants, longings and dreams. However it occurs to me that, sometimes when we say we want something we might not really be wanting it hard enough.

Do you really want what you say you want?

I read a story about a man who was ill all his life – 38years in total – He actually knew where and how he could get a cure to his disease. The cure lied in a pool that will be stirred up every now and then by an angel. Funny enough he actually sat by that pool his whole life but never really got in. The problem was just like him, many other people wanted to get in there so every time the angel stirred up the water, someone else will get in. This was the sad story of this poor man’s life. However one day another man came along – not just any man, God himself – and asked him “Do you WANT to be healed?“.  It seems to me that what he was really asking was “Are you sure you really want to be healed?” “You’ve been sitting by this pool your entire life and the excuse you have is no one was there to put you in?”. “Are you sure you really want to be healed?”. It occurs to me that for 38 years, if this sick man really had a strong desire to get healed, he would have found a way to get himself into that pool. (You can read the story about this man here). Doesn’t matter how many other people were there or how challenging it could’ve been.

In life, we’ll always find an excuse for why we can’t do something or why we can’t achieve the things we say we want. That’s why if you say you want something, then you really got to WANT it! Do you want to graduate from that program already?, Do you want to start that business, that career… what do you want? Are you sure you really want it? We need to learn how to want something. There’s got to be a determination and tenacity inside of you that’ll push you beyond your limits to go after that thing you want, to go against all odds and beat all expectations. If there isn’t then you are not really wanting that thing hard enough!

What are the desires of your heart? Have you done ALL there is to do! Even if you have, are you giving up and just sitting down where you are, not trying to find another way? Are you desperate and determined enough?
I don’t know if you guys watch competitions on TV, or any kind of competition…. when the judges see that there is a strong desire in a contestant to win, they show them more favor. In fact even viewers are drawn towards someone they think really wants to win…. If there is a contestant who doesn’t portray and have a strong willingness and desire to win, they probably will not win.

As long as you are alive, there’ll always be hindrances and obstacles to face. How you face them is what matters. Whatever your desires are, girl go after them with all you’ve got – with faith and trust in God. With God, all things are possible!

What if you really want what you want and you are working hard with all you’ve got towards getting what you want but that’s not God’s desire for your life? You won’t get it anyway right?

    • If you are convicted and you know that it isn’t what God wants for you, then you should stop wasting time and energy on that thing.
However, if God hasn’t made it clear to you that He doesn’t want that for you, then keep working at it! Keep doing all you can! It will surely work out!
