INTIMACY

When you hear the word “Intimacy” what is your first instinct? For me, intimacy is to share a deep bond with someone. In actual fact, being intimate with someone is to have a personal relationship with the person that your major life decisions revolves around the person and that person reciprocates it back to you.

Let’s look at the dictionary and biblical definition of intimacy. The English Dictionary Defines intimacy as “being in close familiarity or friendship with someone.” In social relationships, intimacy is important because it forms the basis for connection and communication. The same holds for our relationship with God. Intimacy with God is to hunger and thirst for him, to know him more, to be in his presence. Unfortunately, the fact that we don’t see God has often pushed this ideology of intimacy with God aside for many people but its importance cannot be overlooked as it forms the base of our existence.

Remember that before we were born, we were already with God. Meaning we were already in an intimate relation with God before we came to earth because He made us in his image and He alone knew from way back the plans He has for us before sending us into the world as humans. The moment we decide to get serious with God (be born again), we just get back to that relationship we had with God before we were born.  No wonder God refers to us as “his first love” and beckons us to return to Him. (Revelations 2:1-7). That intimate relationship is the reason He sent us into the families we belong, the career or business we pursue because He wants us to represent Him and reconcile others back to Him as well.
