We all really love new things. New dresses, shoes, hair styles and even a New year. At the end of last year, I was so excited to cross over to the next year 2020 which is also the beginning of a new decade. I usually just believe a new year has something new for me. So, with much anticipation about something new this year, I also thought about “The New You?”.
The word New is defined as “Being other than the former old”. Can there be a New You? Yes there can be. Just like gold which is dug from the earth and usually coated with mud is purified through refining, so too the new you is possible through a mind transformation process.
Romans 12:2 “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think…” and 2 Corinthians 5:17 “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life has gone; a new one has begun.”
So how can the new you come about? Through God’s mind-transformation process. Our mind/thoughts have a lot of control on our personality, character, decisions and actions. Primordial to becoming a new you is through the transformation of the mind. (Please you can read our previous post on “The mind trick” here.
I have read the story of a man who readily persecuted Christians and approved killing of human beings. Nevertheless, when he encountered Jesus Christ, he was transformed from a persecutor of Christians to a great preacher of Christ. This man who approved killing of fellow men after being transformed, preached love and practiced it. This man is the apostle Paul. The good news is that God’s Grace Package which is available for everyone includes forgiveness and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
I have some habits which I believe are not proper. I struggled on my own to cut them off but sometimes, I tried so hard but I couldn’t. I have learned to do my part and surrender all to God. I believe He is doing a new thing in me. So, do you also feel you have a filthy past; are you a thief or even a murderer; are you struggling with bad habits; do people see you as a bad person; do friends forsake you because of your personality; or are you a good person and still feel a void which needs to be filled for you to be a better person; do you suffer with depression, anxiety etc?
There is good news for you too. The transformation process to getting the new you is still available. The first thing you need to do is to repent of those old ways, pray and seek God’s mercy and forgiveness. Accept and believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. His hands are wide open waiting for you to come. Also, to grow in Faith you need to read and meditate on God’s word daily and open up your heart so this word can sink deep and transform you, Make prayer a lifestyle, Fellowship with other Christians etc. Come to God through Jesus Christ and He will transform you like He did to Saul who became Paul. You can’t fathom what God can do with you until you allow Him to have all that you are.
YOU CAN BE A NEW YOU!
