In the last article, we established the meaning of ‘Breakthrough’. If you haven’t read it, find it here.
As Christians, Faith is the language we speak, what we understand and pursue. Faith means we speak of things as if they were already in existence even though they aren’t. That’s the basic principle of faith – believing without seeing. That is the core of the Christian belief.
Well, Faith isn’t always so easy to practice though. Sometimes our hearts have a hard time assimilating all the knowledge we know in our heads.
So when you are believing God for a breakthrough but the circumstances surrounding you look nothing like a breakthrough what do you do?
SEEK PEACE.
Recently, the verse Philippians 4:7 hit me differently as I meditated upon it. It says;
Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7 NLT)
As I thought about it, it became clearer to me why peace “exceeds anything we can understand ” or as other versions of the Bible will put it ; peace that “surpasses all understanding ”
It is impossible to understand why someone who’s really sick and at the brink of death is at peace or someone who has no idea what their next meal will be or even someone who has experienced great loss and disappointment can still be at peace… These are all issues that will or should under normal circumstances wreck a person. However, someone in Christ has the ability to be at peace. That, surpasses understanding!
That’s why in the middle of a storm, Jesus was peacefully sleeping. And when he woke up, he spoke peace to the storm ; “Peace be still” .
Peace is a great weapon God has given us as his followers.
Peace settles us, assures us, comforts us and guides us through until we see our breakthrough manifest.
So if you’ve been having faith in God for a breakthrough but circumstances right now don’t look like it, hold on to the peace of God which surpasses all understanding. His peace will guard your heart and your mind as you go through this season.
What are some active ways through which we can seek peace?
1. Ask God for peace.
God wants to give his children good gifts. The Bible says if our earthly parents know how to give us good gifts, how much more will God not give to those who ask him.(Luke 11:13). Peace is a wonderful gift you could ask God for today. If you don’t know how to do that, here’s a simple prayer you can make; “Lord please give me peace today, let your peace guard my heart from any sorrow or anxiety and guard my mind from any unbelieving thoughts, may your peace keep me rooted in the truth which is Christ Jesus. Amen”
2. Remove Yourself From Situations That Don’t Bring You Peace
Sometimes, we find ourselves in environments that just make us anxious. People whose presence alone make us anxious. Separate yourself from such places and/or people. Protect your peace. I know not everyone might even have the luxury of removing themselves from such environments. I deeply empathize with such people. If you can, create a safe haven for yourself, even if just for 5mins you can close your eyes and call on God, I’m sure he’ll be there with you and you’ll find peace within the storm.
3. Actively Pursue Peace
To pursue something means to chase after it. That means it’s not always going to be easy to get a hold of it but you keep running after it. Pursuing peace means doing all you can to get a hold of it. Taking daily actions that lead you to it. It could be something as little as listening to music that brings you peace, or surrounding yourself with people that bring you peace or Journaling. Actively seek ways to bring peace into your life.
It’s my prayer for you today that God’s beautiful peace rest upon you. May his peace keep you grounded until you see your breakthrough.
