Dealing with Brokenness

Throughout the last quarter, the focus of our write ups was on “Reawakening”. This was intended to bring back to life the dreams, aspirations and get everyone on the track of fulfilling purpose again. Our next series flows out of the previous one, as we have noticed from life encounters that the reason why many people do not arise to fulfill their God given plans and visions is because they are suffering from brokenness as a result of past experiences. Therefore, it is vital to deal with the brokenness, so that you can reawaken every lost hope, dream or assignment. Brokenness by the dictionary definition is “a state of strong emotional pain that stops someone from living a normal or healthy life”.
Its super amazing that we get to discuss this topic on dealing with brokenness in the season of Easter. For Christians, Easter is the time when we celebrate the resurrection of Christ. For something to resurrect it means there was a death. Hence, a perfect synonym to resurrection is rebirth.
We have all gone through one situation or the other in life that has literally left us feeling dead. You graduated ten years ago but you are yet to find a job, you lost your baby at a tender age, you started a business but it failed and you lost all your capital, you were gang raped, you have written one exam over and over and you never make it, etc etc. These are all situations we face that we can say we are literally “dead”. As a matter of fact, we are merely existing and not living. These hardships leave us broken and most times we just take each day as it comes without hope for a better tomorrow. Even when someone dares to remind us about a dream we had from child hood, it feels like you should pick up a knife and stab that person. The truth is that we will never advance in life if we don’t know how to handle the brokenness in us. That’s what we will be reflecting on in this write up and subsequent write ups.

Step one: Focus on who is Walking beside you.

This step is definitely not new to anyone who has been following our write ups or who is a Christian because our goal is to point you back to the creator. Please hold on… before you close this page saying it’s the same old thing we have been saying I just wish that you take some time to reflect on the narrative in Luke 24:13-35.
In this narrative, Jesus had resurrected and appeared to his disciples on the road to Emmaus. He was walking alongside them and engaged in their conversation but they did not recognize him. They kept grumbling about their disappointment in the dead of Jesus, how they thought he was the one to set Israel free. They were down cast with sad faces till they got home, sat with Jesus on the table, he broke bread gave them. As they took it, their eyes were opened and they could see Jesus. They were happy and went to Jerusalem to tell the other disciples that Jesus had risen indeed.
After reading this narrative, I asked myself, what was the reason why the disciples could not recognize Jesus? Could it be because they focused their attention on their frustrations than on the man who walked with them throughout the long journey? Could the reason why you are broken inside and feeling frustrated be that you have failed to take a look at the man who is walking beside you through every storm? Maybe you have actually not seen him or his hand in the very little things around you. That’s why you probably need to take another step.

Step Two: Receive the bread he gives you.

Yes!!! It was only when the disciples took the bread given to them by Jesus that their eyes were opened and they could see Jesus. You have probably been blind to see the hand of God in your life because you have not yet taken the bread that he is giving you. This bread is his life he laid down on the cross for you. His bones were broken for you so that you will not go through that sickness again. His side was pierced which poured out blood and water which is symbolic of redemption from every past sin you committed and water gives new life, life in abundance. He endured the pains on the cross so that when you take the bread of life (accepting Jesus) you will not have to go through that pain. He did it out of his love and compassion for you. Therefore, you have already obtained mercy to help you in this time of need. Accept his mercy now so that your eyes can be opened to see the big door he has opened for you by this huge sacrifice on the cross.
Therefore dear reader, I don’t know what has kept you broken for years that you seem to be in a dark hole. You may be as disappointed as the disciples because you trusted in someone to help you but he did not. My prayer for you is that the resurrection power will bring back to life every broken and dead situation in your life in the name of Jesus. God knows your deeds. He knows what you are going through and He says in Revelations 3:1-2 “…I know that you have the reputation of being alive even though you are dead! So wake up, and strengthen what you still have before it dies completely…”
I encourage you to wake up. God’s mercy is already speaking for you. He is just waiting for you to embrace him and let him heal your broken heart.

Remain blessed.
